About The US Daily deficit

Welcome to the US Daily Deficit, a blog dedicated to the analysis of the US government Deficit, Debt, the Fiscal Cliff, and anything else we find interesting. Using the Daily Treasury Statement (DTS), which is essentially a daily bank or cash flow statement for the US government, we can calculate a daily deficit using the cash inflows and outflows for dozens of categories, as well as analyze it against historical data going back to 1998. The deficits we post here will generally track pretty close to the official numbers, but we think our numbers are a better reflection of reality because they are based on cash in and cash out, and thus are not subject to all of the government accounting “Malarkey”…as Joe Biden might put it.
